Lord,
with so many others, we go…
simple pilgrims on your paths,
rooted and yet always on the move,
tense in the march between goal and itinerancy,
torn between reality and the dream of the absolute,
always astonished to experience the power of this tenuous breath that carries us,
useless servants, happy with grace,
with praise in our hearts.

Lord our God,
you invite us to welcome your Kingdom like little children,
we who are dangerously tall and above all anxious to appear as such in the eyes of others.
Bring us back to more correctness.
Each of us is what we are in your eyes, equally loved and worthy of being loved.
Share this look, your look, with us in all our relationships.
We pray this through Jesus, who held nothing back from his position and whom you made Lord, for eternity.

God, bring us back to the place where you speak, to the secret of our hearts.
Make us more attentive to those precious moments when something of your presence touches us.
And may we believe in them enough to commit ourselves to act afterwards,
according to what we perceive to be right.
We pray this through Jesus, who is with us every day through his Spirit, until the end of time.

5 March 2025 – Ash Wednesday – Vespers

Father, in your hands is Life, in ours, so much ashes!
These ashes before you this morning, symbols of our wars that leave nothing but ruins,
of our insatiable selfishness that crushes all around it,
of the exploitation of nature that we plunder,
of our cult of money that goes up in smoke…
These ashes are also a reminder that we are made of clay, that we are ephemeral and that death will see us all return to the dust of the earth!
But it’s not sadness that is on our foreheads this morning, but hope.
For dust… is the seed of new life, and in asking you to bless these ashes, Father, we are making an act of faith,
that we ask you to accept, in the promise of Jesus your Son, He who is the Resurrection of us all, for ever.

Lord God, you created us in your image, fashioned us from the fine dust of the earth, and clothed us in the beauty of divine natur
with the beauty of divine nature. But we have broken that covenant, lost the likeness, clasped our hands in the vanity of idols?
So you sent your Son Jesus, so that his humanity might clothe these beings of dust that we are with your light.
dust that we are, and that his Spirit might regenerate us! You want our dry bones to live and dance
for your service and the service of our sisters and brothers.
In this season of Lent, we resume our journey, on the dusty ground of this world, but already
renewed in faith, hope and charity, by the grace of the Resurrection of Christ, your only Son and our
and our brother.

Thank you, Lord, for the prayer that awakens goodness in us.
Thank you, Lord, for the prayer that opens our horizons to hope.
Thank you, Lord, for prayer that adorns the ordinary with the extraordinary.
Thank you, Lord, for prayer that weaves the threads of a fraternal network.
Thank you, Lord, for prayer that resists the easy way out.
Thank you, Lord, for prayer that opens the door to trust.

Jesus Lord,
On the evening of this day we are joyful and grateful because you pray in us.
In times of darkness, you offer the liberation of forgiveness,
in times of peace, your song of praise carries us to the Father.
Stay with us, watch over us in this night that for so many of our sisters and brothers is made up
of suffering. We pray, you who are united to the Father from all eternity.

Lord, sometimes we no longer know how to name you, the trace of you is so tenuous in this faceless world,
we remain alone with our frailties.
And yet this morning we live, we love, so once again you are before us,
Unexpected God, Word and sap of Life for today and for ever.

Lord our God, we know almost nothing about you, but we can make out your mark in the depths of what we are given…
May we know how to welcome your passion for life-giving gestures, the courage of solidarity, the desire for risky paths.
We know almost nothing about you… but from this almost nothing we live.
Thanks be to you, Lord our God, Father Son and Holy Spirit, for all eternity.

esus Lord, so often we fail to recognise your presence in our lives. We don’t know how to discern the signs of the Spirit, or see that the Kingdom of God has come to us.
Convert us to the newness of time.
When we remain passive, looking up at the sky, when we should be working diligently to incarnate the Gospel; when we are busy with immediacy, when we should be sitting down and listening:
Let’s convert to the newness of time.
When we hoard when we should be making a profit, when we are always looking to gain when we should be losing: let us convert to the newness of time.
When we flee from the gravity of the moment, when we should be staying and watching, when we remain weighed down by the weight of regret, when we should be running ahead of hope:
Let’s convert to the newness of time.
When we dream of travelling the world, when happiness is just around the corner, and all we have to do is serve and share: let’s convert to the newness of time.
